Collaboration with The Southport School

22 Feb 2018

The Southport School was interested to understand what educational options exist for collaboration between UQ and the school, and can be used in the curriculum deliver of STEM on a high school level. The school's science teacher visited our St Lucia campus and toured the QLD Node of the Australian National Fabrication Facility, located within the Australian Institute of Bioengineering and Nanotechnology.

We got to showcase cool stuff like atomic force microscopes, cleanrooms which are dust-free to the 10,000 degree, and equippment used in fabrication of microfuidics. We discussed applied usage of research done in the Node, and the broad skills set it provides not just in medicine and research fields, but also in agriculture, food and beverage and engineering industries.

We also visited UQ's Sparqed facility and discussed student emersion programs and video link ups directly wiht the school's large cohort.
