Join the Hon Milton Dick MP, Speaker of the House of Representatives, for a special Parliament in Schools professional learning event for teachers.

As digital technologies continue to transform how Australians access information, engage in public debate and participate in democracy, educators play an increasingly important role in equipping young people with the knowledge and skills to become informed and engaged citizens.

At this event, teachers will hear directly from Hon Milton Dick MP about the Parliament in Schools program and the vital role teachers play in strengthening Australia's democracy. The session will explore practical ways to engage students in democracy, government and parliamentary education in an increasingly digital world.

The event will also feature presentations from leading University of Queensland researchers examining the opportunities and challenges of teaching civics in a digital world. Topics will explore critical thinking in the age of AI, misinformation and disinformation, truth and trust in digital information, the influence of social media and algorithms on public debate, and how educators can prepare students to be informed and responsible citizens in an increasingly AI-enabled society. The program will conclude with a Q&A and panel discussion.

Who Should Attend

This event is designed for teachers, school leaders, educators and pre-service teachers interested in strengthening civics and citizenship education through engaging, real-world learning experiences.

About Parliament in Schools

The Parliament in Schools program brings democracy education directly to students and school communities. By combining classroom-style learning with hands-on experiences, the program helps young Australians better understand the role of Parliament, the importance of democratic participation, and how government works in everyday life.
