The ongoing advances in Generative AI technologies present both opportunities and challenges for teaching and assessment. Its availability requires ongoing appraisal of our teaching and assessment design, evaluation and governance.

While protecting academic integrity is critical, we also acknowledge the increasing prevalence of AI in our everyday lives, making it critical for us to help students to understand its ethical and effective use.

An important step in helping students use Generative AI in ethical and effective ways to develop your capabilities in using these systems.

This interactive session will:

  • introduce what Generative AI is
  • review current main tools
  • explore examples of their use and potential in teaching and learning
  • provide an overview of UQ’s guidance on Generative AI
  • discuss data and privacy implications to consider.

This assessment will include a panel discussion covering the following topics:

  • Where do organisations start on the journey to ensure that their use of AI engenders trust?
  • The challenges of incorporating AI tools like ChatGPT
  • How do people know if they are interacting with AI?
  • Who is held responsible when a mistake is made by AI?
  • How do we build in safeguards for responsible AI, while also building excitement about it's potential?
  • How do organisations manage the speed-to-market [of AI tools], while also doing it in a way that builds trust?
