Queensland teachers are asking for a profession worth staying in

Queensland’s public school teachers walked off the job earlier this month in their first statewide strike in 16 years. While some media reports framed this as a pay dispute, teachers insist this was about unsafe working conditions, excessive workloads and not enough resources. PhD Candidate in education and trauma, Glenys Oberg said her own research, drawn from a national study of nearly 2,000 teachers, found alarmingly high levels of compassion fatigue, secondary traumatic stress and burnout.
